It’s story time… for adults! Spellbinding short stories by both established and emerging writers take on new life when they are performed by stars of stage and screen.

Experience the hit public radio series and podcast live for an evening of funny, moving, and unforgettable performances.

Selected Shorts was conceived at Symphony Space in New York City in 1985 with one simple premise — great short stories performed by great actors. Flash-forward nearly 40 years, and Selected Shorts is broadcast on over 150 radio stations around the country, with more than 100,000 downloads every week.

The live performances at Symphony Space and on the road enjoy sold-out performances to this day. Each Selected Shorts is a completely original and unique evening of literature brought to life. Actors will be announced closer to the performance date. 

Selected Shorts is produced by Symphony Space in New York City and broadcast on more than 150 stations around the country. The Selected Shorts podcast consistently ranks as one of the most popular podcasts on iTunes, with over 100,000 downloads every week. The series began in 1985 and enjoys sold-out performances to this day.

Selected Shorts was conceived with a simple premise: take great stories by well-known and emerging writers and have them performed by terrific actors of stage and screen. Evenings are often co-hosted by writers or involve a special collaboration with literary publications, podcasts, museums, and more.

Each Selected Shorts is a unique night of literature in performance.

About Ophira Eisenberg

Ophira Eisenberg is a standup comedian, writer, and host of the award-winning comedy podcast Parenting Is a Joke. She also hosted NPR’s Ask Me Another, where she interviewed and played silly games with hundreds of celebrities including Sir Patrick Stewart, Rosie Perez, Yo-Yo Ma, Awkwafina, Roxanne Gay, Nick Kroll, Chelsea Handler, and more.

She’s appeared multiple times on CBS’s The Late Late Show, Sherri! with Sherri Sheppard, Comedy Central, HBO, The New York Festival, and is regular on The Moth Radio Hour. Her stories are included in three of The Moth’s best-selling collections. Her memoir, Screw Everyone: Sleeping My Way to Monogamy, was optioned for a TV series, and her comedy special Plant-Based Jokes is streaming on YouTube.

Eisenberg is a regular at The Comedy Cellar and other New York clubs, and her solo show, Leaving A Mark: A Comedy About Scars, made its Off-Broadway debut to rave reviews and won the Women in the Arts & Media Award for Solo Show Scripts.
