ABOUT THIS EVENT

Pine Plains, NY:  “The Stissing Center is pleased to announce their live-streaming summertime  chamber music series, LIVE! from The Stissing Center! The series will kick off this Saturday, June 27 at 4:30 pm, and will be streamed on The Stissing Center’s website, www.thestissingcenter.org/live and on The Stissing Center’s Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/thestissingcenter. The concert will be recorded and available post-performance.

Saturday’s performance will feature soprano Lucy Fitz Gibbon (“…dazzling, virtuoso singing.” Boston Globe) and pianist Ryan MacEvoy McCullough. These musical and life partners will deliver a timely recital titled Out of Silence: Music of Clara Schumann, William Grant Still and Adela Maddison. The artists will also be interviewed about the music and life as a musician during these difficult times.

The series is being curated by Sophia (Shuhui) Zhou, an Artistic Consultant for The Stissing Center. “For this one-of-a-kind series, we have assembled a roster of extraordinary artists,” Zhou said. “Among them, there are faculty and students from the Bard College Conservatory, Cornell University and the New School; young professionals from The Orchestra Now, the Juilliard School, Carnegie Hall Ensemble Connect, University of Performing Arts, Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin, and La Chapelle de Musique in Belgium; and winners of the Avery Fisher Career Grant.”

“Since we can’t have the audience come see these great young artists in person, we are bringing their talents to you via the web,” said The Stissing Center’s Executive Director, Brian Keeler. “These performances, along with The Chair Series, are a creative way to use our unique venue during this time of social distancing. Until we can safely open our doors to the public, the public has and will have a great opportunity to get to know The Stissing Center in a very personal way; through the eyes and talents of wonderful performers.”

Lucy Fitz Gibbon and Ryan MacEnvoy McCullough have performed throughout North America and Europe since 2006, bringing an intimacy to their performances that speaks to their many years of collaboration. The husband-and-wife duo recently released a new album with Albany Records (Descent/Return, featuring works by two American composers: John Harbison and James Primosch). During the pandemic, the couple has been making recordings from their living room in Kingston, NY, when not gardening or taking daily walks around the Hudson Valley.
